Essowè Georges BARCOLA

Essowè Georges BARCOLA, former Director General of the Togolese National Lottery (LONATO) and a prominent figure within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) Commission, has been appointed to lead this strategic portfolio. The reshuffle, announced on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, represents a significant shift in the country’s economic management.
Georges BARCOLA is no stranger to public finance. As a commissioner at UEMOA, he skillfully tackled complex financial challenges in the region, particularly overseeing the Department of Administrative and Financial Services. His extensive experience and expertise will now be harnessed to strengthen Togo’s economic stability.
As the new Minister of Economy and Finance, Georges BARCOLA faces the critical task of advancing the economic reforms initiated by his predecessor. One of his key priorities will be to sustain the country’s economic growth in a fragile context still influenced by the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Under his leadership, the ministry will also need to enhance fiscal and budgetary measures to support sustainable development and secure funding for projects and programs aimed at propelling Togo toward its vision of emergence.
