Chris SMITH

Head of Sustainable Sovereign Finance and Managing Director / Bankers without Boundaries

Chris is Global Head of Sovereign Sustainable Finance at BwB – The Investment Bank for Earth and is also a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Before joining BwB following its launch, Chris had worked in the City of London for nearly 20 years for HSBC and Standard Charted Bank in a range of corporate , global markets and institutional banking roles. More latterly he was Head of Group Sustainability at Standard Chartered. During his time at Standard Chartered Chris was seconded to work for HRH The Prince of Wales where he held the position of Chief Operating Officer of The Prince’s Rainforest Project and Sustainable Development Advisor to HRH The Prince of Wales. Chris has worked extensively across the global south throughout his career in the fields of nature and carbon related finance and particularly in identifying and developing innovative solutions to rapidly promote flows of private finance towards development objectives. Chris has worked with over 30 countries during his tenure at BwB and and is an advisor to a range of UN Agencies including UNEP-FI, UNCCD and UNDP in the field of sustainable finance. Chris holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Leicester.
